Experience

I am an PhD student at UC Irvine, completing my dissertation on contemporary Spanish novelists who write about the Spanish Civil War. In addition to years of classroom teaching as a Spanish instructor at UCI, I have about 20 years of experience as a tutor. Tutoring was my first job, way back in junior high, and I still love the experience of finding a creative explanation for a difficult concept—tailored specifically to an individual student. Whether in the classroom or tutoring one-on-one, one of my favorite things in life is being part of that "Aha!" moment. I have tutored elementary, high school, and college students in math (my first job was as an algebra tutor!), English, writing, Spanish, and music. I also work teaching online classes in Legal Writing for my alma mater, Oak Brook College of Law.

Hobbies

I come from a big family, and some of my first experiences as a teacher were helping my siblings with their homework. In college, I spent a summer term at a study abroad program at Oxford University, and made a friend—Dan—who would later become my husband. We highly recommend study abroad as a life-changing experience. ;) We now have a fun, happy toddler who loves board books and playing on the playground.
